A very successful 15th November 'Getting to Grips with Drawing'

We had the best day.

I think this was my most successful workshop of all.  Starting out with a slightly ouvre name of the day - we began with drawing exercises to loosen up...I forget which ones exactly now but short 15minute exercises to get us going.

We had a great team of people for the day.   Some experienced and some absolutely not.  The most scary part for anyone beginning is the first few drawings.  I have been known to hold the hand of this person and quite literally draw along with them, enough to fill the page - get the page filled and off we go onto the next drawing.

About 2 hours in, I sprang a surprise on my workshopee's when I informed them that we were going to do a new drawing - in gardening wire!  No joke!

Lots of gasps and 'no-ways' but with some oh-so-gentle persuading, they were off.

This exercise truly surprised me.  The two people that joined the group only that morning, having not done any artwork at all for years and years excelled in this.

The works produced were just fantastic.  Framable.

As an outcome of this exercise I have one lady now going onto into jewellery and silversmithing...she just doesn't know it yet!

The afternoon was spent collaging.

Paper collage and mixed media is a marvellous way around drawing, or rather into drawing.

I respond very well to this medium and enjoy it hugely.  Its very forgiving and you can arrange things in a way that you can't with paint.  I find it hard to explain but this attached work 'Pooches Parlour' is perhaps a good example.

Light, joyful fun.  Detailed in some places but not others and easy easy to amend, lovely.

We all agreed that our drawing workshop had been enormously successful.   Happy clients left, which in turn made me joyous.
