We had a great time yesterday. There were 10 of us in total and much was learnt...by my students and by me!
We were painting in acrylic onto canvas, both on the easels and on the table. Our still life was simple and we concentrated on taking what we saw in front of us and playing around with it.
Composition was a big part of the day, and to come in from the other angle totally. Artists we looked at were Mary Feddon RA and Elizabeth Blackadder both breathtaking artists.
By the end of the day we has some great paintings. Acrylic is a tricky medium to get going with, its immediate and not nearly as forgiving as Watercolour. That said it does have the wonderful advantage of being able to paint over a trouble-spot immediatly. Acrylic paint is a form of plastic so once its dry its a non-permeable surface on which to begin again, a massive advantage.
I was really pleased (wearing my tutor hat) to see the increase in confidence in the room by the end of our workshop. All seemed to be pleased with what they had produced either in drawing form or paint.
Next up...'Getting to Grips with Drawing' on November 15th. I have 5 spaces left for this day. Please email me or see my 'art classes' page for more details.
